No one can deny the fact that 2012 was the year for Carly Rae Jepsen songs. The Canadian recording artist is now more known as the singer behind the smash hit ‘Call Me Maybe,’ which was logically declared as the song of the year. It seems that everything is going smoothly now for this promising and budding new music icon.

She was born on November 21, 1985 in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. The daughter of Larry and Patty Jepsen attended Heritage Park Secondary School in their community. It served as the venue of her initial musical and live performances especially after her graduation.

In college, she attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts, located in Victoria, British Columbia. During those years, she auditioned for the Canadian Idol season 5, a local franchise of the popular American Idol in the US. She did not win the title but she placed third, which entitled her to be part of the Top 3 concert tour across the country.

After completing her obligations for Canadian Idol, Carly Rae Jepsen went back to writing her own songs and recording with her own band. She produced impressive demos that led her to a joint management agreement with Dexter Entertainment and Simkin Artist Management. She was introduced to record producer Ryan Stewart.

In September 2008, she released her first ever album, ‘Tug of War’ through MapleMusic Recordings. It hinted the promising potential of Carly Rae Jepsen songs. Unfortunately, as history has it, the CD is not yet the big break she has been waiting for, although it surely has helped paved her way to stardom.

In February 2012, she released ‘Curiosity,’ her extended play. It contained the track ‘Call Me Maybe,’ which everyone would surely agree to be the mother of all Carly Rae Jepsen songs. It was released through 604 Records, co-founded by her ongoing manager Jonathan Simkin.

Before that, in January 2012, Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber and her then girlfriend Selena Gomez visited the country for the holidays. They heard the single ‘Call Me Maybe’ once when they tuned in to the radio. The former couple tweeted about the song, making the track popular in an instant across the international music scene.

In March 2012, Jepsen dropped by Los Angeles to see Bieber and Scooter Braun, his manager. The two were instrumental in obtaining an American recording deal for her through Braun’s Interscope Records and School Boy Records. The hit single was the second Canadian song to get into the top spots of the digital music charts in the US and worldwide after Bieber’s ‘Baby’ in January 2010.

Stardom came easier to her after that. Several other Carly Rae Jepsen songs were released as follow up singles like ‘Good Time’ and ‘Kiss.’ Like most other artists, Jepsen has never been spared from controversies. In October 2012, she and Owl City’s vocalist Adam Young faced a copyright infringement compliant in Los Angeles after singer-songwriter Allyson Nichole Burnett found many similarities between the song ‘Good Time’ and her own ‘Ah, It’s a Love Song.’
