Enrique Iglesias Biography

A son of Latin pop veteran “Julio Iglesias”, “Enrique Iglesias” followed the footsteps of his father as a singer. Enrique was born on 8th May in Madrid, Spain in 1975. In 1979 his parents’ marriage was annulled. He is the youngest of three children. He was eight years old when he moved to US and at the age of 15, secretly began to write music. He studied Business Administration at Miami University for a year before he dropped out to pursue a music career. Five years later, on September 25, 1995, he released his first album. This was his self-named debut album.

Enrique’s firs live performance came in a production of “Hello, Dolly” at his school, the prestigious Gulliver Private School in Miami. From there, he started writing and performing songs in different restaurants in Miami with a small group of friends and he kept this as a secret from his parents.

He did not want to take the advantage of his father’s name. Intent on doing it without the help of his father or his famous last name, Enrique started shopping demos of his work to various producers under the name of Enrique Martinez. He had recorded the cassette, which featured one Spanish song and a pair of English tunes, by secretly borrowing money from his nanny.

Hard work soon paid off, and in 1995, Enrique much to the chagrin of his parents inked a record contract. Later that year, his debut album got released.

The record proved to be more of a hit than Iglesias would have ever imagined, going gold in Portugal in just seven days and selling more than 6 million copies worldwide. The following year, Iglesias took home many accolades, including a 1996 Grammy Award for the best Latin Performer, Billboard’s “Artist of the year” and “Album of the year” honors and a pair of American Music Awards.

In 1999, he made a career break through the song “Bailamos (We Dance)”. Enrique apparently worked on his next album while he was travelling across the globe for his first tour to support his second for in 1998 he already had a bunch of new songs enough to fill one full-length record. Without waiting any longer he released the album “Cosas Del Amor” in September the same year. Through this effort he won the award he lost the previous year, Favorite Latin Artist at AMA’s beating Ricky Martin.

Enrique has made nine albums. Insomniac was released in 2008 and he did the official song for Uefa Euro 2008 “Can You Hear Me” he sang at the finale. After Insomniac, he made greatest hits and went on tour 2009.

His latest album is “Euphoria” and his first bilingual album with Spanish and English songs.

Enrique’s life is a lesson of a self made man. He did all the possible efforts to gain the attention of the nation of today and he succeeded also. His life is full of devotion and making one’s career in his life time without taking help from anyone.
